Free Chinese Summer Camp

Thanks to renewal of a STARTALK federal grant, Fayette County Public Schools will again partner with the University of Kentucky to offer a Chinese summer program. FCPS will receive about $33,600 of the $123,523 award.

The two-week program enables kids in grades K-8 to practice the language during summer break, and it gives UK college students a venue for their teaching practicum. The classes offer various opportunities for authentic Chinese cultural experiences and hands-on activities in an immersion environment. .

The free program, set for June 20 through July 1 at Crawford Middle School, can accommodate about 50 students. Applicants must currently be studying Chinese in an FCPS classroom; the program is not for beginners.

The application deadline is May 6.
