Free Paper Shredding

Because of the great response from November's free Paper Shred Day, the Lexington-Fayette County Government's Division of Waste Management will offer paper-shred days nearly every month in 2011.

Events will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month from April to October at the old landfill pad at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. Free paper shredding also will be offered 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12.

The first of these monthly events is Tuesday. Participants need to make sure that documents do not have paper clips or bindings. Material can include white and colored paper, folders, magazines, envelopes and other paper products. There will be a limit of 25 boxes per person.

This is a free service for Fayette County residents only; paper from businesses will not be accepted. All of the shredded paper will be recycled by Cintas into low-grade paper products, such as tissue paper. Cardboard boxes will be collected and recycled by Lexington's Division of Waste Management.
