Events scheduled at various locations
Now under the stewardship of the Downtown Lexington Corporation, the city's annual Fourth of July Festival will still be host to many anticipated events on July 4 and a few days preceding, including the Fourth of July Street Parade, Bluegrass 10,000, the Great American Pie Contest, the reading of the Declaration of Independence and, of course, fireworks.
For information on having a float in the parade or being an artist vendor, applications are available at www.downtownlex.com (look under Downtown Events).
June 30: Central Bank Thursday Night Live (featuring Rebel Without a Cause). 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Cheapside Park.
July 1: Great American Pie Contest. Noon, Cheapside Park.
July 2: Red, White & Boom (more information at www.redwhiteandboom.com). Noon - 11 p.m., Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
July 3: Last Chance Bluegrass 10,000 (for registration). 2 - 6 p.m., Picadome (469 Parkway Dr.). Patriotic Music Concert. 8 p.m., Transylvania University.
July 4: Bluegrass 10,000 Foot Race. 7:30 a.m., downtown Lexington.
• Street Festival (arts, crafts, food and commercial vendors). 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., downtown Lexington.
• Live Music and Entertainment. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., various stages (including Cheapside Park, Centre Pointe lot, Phoenix Park and the Courthouse Plaza).
• Bluegrass 10,000 Awards Ceremony. 10 a.m., Lexington History Museum.
• Reading of the Declaration of Independence. 11:15 a.m. Lexington History Museum.
• 4th of July Street Parade. 2 p.m. Main Street.
• Main Street Concert. 6 - 10 p.m. Triangle Park.
• Fireworks, featuring Blue Grass Southern Lights, Inc. 10 p.m.
