University of Tennessee Graduate Program

ATTN: Top undergraduate students and top masters students with an interest in human geography and the African American experience

The University of Tennessee's Department of
Geography for graduate education WANTS YOU!

Over the last four years our department has undergone a significant change with the hiring of four new faculty who specialize in human geography. While we continue to build upon our historic focus on urban/economic geography we also now have significant expertise in the areas of social justice, questions of race and ethnicity, qualitative methods, spatial analysis, mixed methods approaches, cultural geography and population and migration studies. In addition the University is focusing more extensively on questions of social justice and social inequity (more information at http://cssj.utk.edu/ ) and many of our faculty are involved with the centers mission.

We are a young, dynamic department with energy and focus and we are excited to build upon our position within the university and we are proud of our claim that we offer world-class opportunities for graduate education. Our graduate students have opportunities to study at a research intensive university while maintaining a home in a department with accessible faculty and collegial working environment. If you would like more information about
the program please consult: http://web.utk.edu/~utkgeog/ or you may want to contact the graduate program director Dr. Henri Grissino-Mayer at:
grissino@utk.edu or other faculty with specific questions about their
research focuses and directions.
