The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World

By Pulitzer Prize winner playwright Suzan Lori-parks
Directed by Adanma Onyedike

Widely considered to be Parks' masterpiece, this play brings to life a menagerie of stereotypes of African Americans. The "last man" of the title is named Black Man With Watermelon. He dies multiple deaths over the course of the show. Other characters include Ham, Queen Hatshepsut, Before Columbus, Black Woman with Fried Drumstick, Prunes and Prisms. These names comment on history and historians in fractured, repetitive, experimental language that evokes jazz.
