The Student Activities Board is proud to bring rap artist Lana “MC Lyte” Moorer as the opener to our “Why We Love Hip Hop” series!
MC Lyte is an accomplished Hip Hop artist who first hit the scene with her 1988 album Lyte as Rock. 1993 classic anthem, "Ruffneck," was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Single, making her the first female solo rapper ever nominated for a Grammy. She was the first female Hip Hop artist to sell over 500,000 albums, earning her a Gold Record. Lyte has won Billboard Artist of the Year and a Soul Train Award. She tours college campuses and uses her expertise to motivate young people to take ownership of the world around them. Lyte will be the kick-off speaker for the Why We Love Hip Hop series beginning on February 3rd.
“Why We Love Hip Hop” Series is in its second year and brings hip hop to the forefront through exciting topics, speakers and events.
