Fayette health department offers $25 flu shots
Flu season will be here soon, and the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has begun offering vaccines.
The seasonal flu shot also protects against the H1N1 strain and is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and up.
Shots cost $25 and are available on a walk-in basis at the Public Health Clinic North, 805A Newtown Circle. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
The health department accepts Medicaid, Medicare Part B, cash, checks, credit cards and some private insurance plans.

Officials from the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center's ovarian cancer screening program are working to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and the importance of detecting it early during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
The free ovarian cancer screening program offered year-round through Markey is open to women ages 50 and older, and to those older than 25 who have a family history of ovarian cancer.
So far, 447 ovarian tumors and 76 malignancies have been found through the screening program.
Screenings are being done in Lexington, Elizabethtown, Somerset, Prestonsburg, Maysville and Paducah. For more information, call 1-800-766-8279.
